  • DDOS attack 15 March 2016

    Summary: We are currently experiencing a Distributed Denial Of Service (DDOS) attack effecting all our services.  Our engineers are currently working on resolving the issue , working with our upstream partners. We apologies for this inconvenience . We will update this post once the issue has been resolved.

    Update @ 16:28: All services are back and operating normally but the attack is still occurring. We will continue monitor it closely.

     

    What is a Distributed Denial Of Service attack?

    A distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack occurs when multiple systems flood the bandwidth or resources of a targeted system, usually one or more web servers. Such an attack is often the result of multiple compromised systems (for example a botnet) flooding the targeted system with traffic. (source Wikipedia)

    In this case , there are multiple external sources attacking a web server attached to the network. These attacks can be difficult to pinpoint and can take some time to block completely. Quite often network engineers have to work with upstream providers to block the source of the attacks and this can cause further delays.

  • Scheduled Maintenance – MySQL Database Server

    Summary: We need to bring down our shared MySQL database server 217.115.118.109 (ppamysql4.myhost.ie) in order to run some necessary maintenance. During this time any websites with databases hosted on this server will be affected. We have scheduled this at a time we feel will have minimal impact. We apologize for this inconvenience.

    Scheduled Time: 03:00 GMT

    Maintenance Window: Approx 1 Hour

    Update: 04:20 GMT Databases currnetly being re-imported, maintenance took a little longer than expected.

    Update: 05:30 GMT Databases import task completed.

     

  • Server Reboots

    Due to an interuption of power at the Data Center and a failed UPS backup at one of our racks a number of our servers rebooted unexpectedly yesterday.

    We will provide a more detailed explanation of events once we have compiled a report.

  • Issues With Shared Server pplinweb06

    Summary: We are currently experiencing high load on the shared server pplinweb06 and are currently troubleshooting the problem. You may experience degraded performance if your website is hosted on this server. We apologise for the inconvenience.

    Services Effected: Website only, Mail or DNS is not effected.

    Update @ 16:54: This issue is currently resolved and the server is processing connections again correctly .  We apologise for the inconvenience.
